Recently I treated myself to new pair of Altra Olympus 5 hike low GTX. So far so good. I have only done a 5k in them at our local park run, but they feel sturdy and comfortable. They are a little heavier than my old trail shoes. But that is not surprising as they are actually a hike / trail shoe. This will be perfect for me as I intend to do some slightly longer hill running later on in the year. This will be run over different ground surfaces including loose Sharp stone. And that is exactly what these shoes are built for.
Altra is a brand of running shoes that is gaining popularity. They offer zero-drop and foot-shaped toe boxes. These features can improve balance and increase foot strength, and the claim is that they're also more comfortable than traditional running shoes.
I was skeptical of Altra shoes at first, but I was won over after trying a pair of the Olympus 5s. The toe box is spacious and comfortable, and the cushioning is excellent. I've yet to try them in anger, but so far they are looking very promising.
